The Computing & Technical Support Team looks after the School's computing resources and advises the School's users.
If you need help with using our systems and applications, or to report problems, please contact the team by email using the University's IT Service Desk shared email address, .
Please ensure that the subject line concisely describes the issue or request, and includes your location. To help the Service Desk direct the request quickly, also state that the issue is with a system or service in the School of Computer Science & Informatics (or “COMSC” for short).
Once submitted, you will receive an email receipt that contains a specific reference number. You may receive further email updates or direct contact from one of our team as your call is investigated. If you wish to know the status of your call please reply to the email receipt rather than generate a new email (which would create an addition Service Desk call).
The IT Service Desk is also available on phone extension 11111.
The team is also contactable via telephone and office drop-ins. Our offices are all in Central building close to the main teaching and research laboratories. We operate an open door policy which means that students may come and ask for advice throughout office hours. Outside office hours please email and a member of the team will reply as quickly as possible.
The team provides users with documentation, induction tutorials and lab classes. They will also provide individual advice and assistance. Just call in or email whenever you need help.
Each member of the team has specialist knowledge of particular systems and software used in the School. They will help students in using our systems, and offer guidance with computing coursework or projects. They can also advise on the availability and usage of specific applications.
The team will also help staff and research students specify systems and software for purchase or grant applications, for example.
