Users from other Schools should refer to University IT documentation — in particular, Virtual Private Network.

Installing the OpenVPN Client

To connect to the VPN an OpenVPN client must be installed on your machine. To download a client go to https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html and select the Installer, Windows Vista and later executable option.

Once downloaded double click on the file and follow through the installer. After the install has completed OpenVPN GUI will be available in the start menu.

Obtaining the OpenVPN Configuration File

To use OpenVPN you must obtain a .ovpn file from the Undergraduate Certificate Manager portal.

Enter your University username and password then download the generated .ovpn file. Ensure that you save this file in a safe place.

Importing the Configuration File

In the system tray right locate the OpenVPN icon and right click selecting 'Import file...'.

If there is no system tray icon present launch OpenVPN GUI from the start menu.

In the explorer window that opens browse to where you downloaded the .ovpn configuration file and select it.

A dialog will be displayed notifying you that the import was successful.

The OpenVPN client is now configured to connect to the University VPN.
